Thornybush Game Reserve
Thornybush Game Reserve (in the Limpopo Provinces) was originally
fenced in 1955 and the first Lodge was built and operated in 1961. The Reserve
itself was proclaimed in April 1993. At some 13 816 in size, Thornybush is
extensive, and home to 48 Mammal species, 112 Tree species, 230 Bird species
and 54 reptile species.
The Reserve borders Kapama, and is close to the Timbavati and the Kruger Park, making it part of the Greater Kruger area. Thornybush is just over 5 hour’s drive from Johannesburg; and has evolved over the years into a visitor’s paradise, with a selection of accommodation. Access is easiest via Hoedspruit, if you are flying into the area.
It is home to the “Big Five” – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo, along with numerous other species. Guests can enjoy game viewing from 4x4 vehicles, and on foot.
